JAIGAON DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (JDA)
The Jaigaon Development Authority (JDA), the nodal Agency for the Development of areas under three Gram Panchayats of Kalchini Block in the District of Jalpaiguri was created by upgradation of Jaigaon Planning Authority on 18-07-1990 (Notification no. 2066-T7 CP/IC-13/84, Dtd. 18-07-1990 of Development and Planning (T&CP) Department)- in pursuance of the objectives of the West Bengal Town & Country (Planning and Development) Act. 1979. JDA area consists of the following Mouzas - 1) Dalsingpara Tea Garden 2) Torsa Tea Garden 3) Machia Basti 4) Gopimohan Tea Garden 5) Jaigaon and 6) Chota Jaigaon. Total area of JDA is about 46 sq. km. The total population of Jaigaon Planning Area is 67,967 as per Census 2001.

On the basis of present predominant economic activities, Jaigaon Planning Area may be subdivided into three distinct characters where Jaigaon Gram Panchayat-II has predominant commercial activities that reflect its urbanizing characters whereas area under Jaigaon Gram Panchayat-I is still maintaining agro-economy. The economy surrounding Dalsingpara Gram Panchayat is dependant on the tea garden sectors. JDA was been established in 1987 under the West Bengal Town & Country (Planning & Dev.)
