1. Trade Fair Complex (Milan Mela)
A Trade Fair Complex is being set up and promoted jointly by Kolkata Municipal Corporation and West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation. The complex will be set up on a land measuring 17.81 acres at the Park Circus connector. Land for the project has been provided by Kolkata Municipal Corporation. The salient features are :
The project cost for the 1st phase is 43.65 crore.
The facilities planned for the first phase are exhibition hall; exhibition ground on both western side and eastern side, central administrative and facilities block, food stall, car parking and open area.
M/s M.N.Dastur & Co has prepared Rapid Environment Impact Assessment Report for the site.
The total construction period has been estimated to be 18 months.
Work for the 1st phase has already started.
2. Apparel Park
The corporation is in the process of setting up an Apparel Export Park on 150 acres of land at an estimated project cost of Rs. 50 crores at Uluberia in Howrah District. The park will be equipped with industrial plot, commercial plot, common facilities centres, warehousing etc. The Park would focus on integrated units like garment manufacturing units, ancillary units for manufacturing buttons and specialized units like processing or washing units to bring more value addition to the garments manufactured. About 40 units are likely to come up in the park. Civil construction will be commencing soon. It is expected that the project at its full capacity utilization will create employment opportunity for 20000 persons.
3. Industrial Park for Iron & Steel Industries
In view of rising trend in steel consumption in India over the past few years and with buoyancy of overall infrastructure, housing, electrification,etc. Eastern Region is poised for growth in steel consumption. Keeping this in mind the corporation has initiated steps to set up Iron & Steel Park at Kharagpur and Guptamoni under Kharagpur and Jhargram PS in West Midnapur district.

The corporation has also identified 2500 acres of land at Guptamoni to set up a Mega Iron & Steel Park. The site is adjacent to NH-6 and having facility for power line. The corporation is in the process of acquisition of land. In view of requirement of considerable water, Irrigation & Waterways Department has sanctioned withdrawal of 15 mgd of water from Subarnarekha River which is about 25 km away from the proposed site.
4. Biotech Park
The corporation jointly with Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur is planning to set up a Biotechnology Park at Dewanmara in West Midnapur district. For this purpose a 60 acre of land at Dewanmara has been identified. The Park will have modern facilities to set up Biotech projects. IIT, Kharagpur will be responsible for providing technologies to support the investors for setting up and operating projects in the park. A high-tech green city to provide social infrastructure for the Biotechnology Park has also been envisaged. Concept along with financial projection is being prepared by IIT, Kharagpur. A memorandum of agreement has been signed between IIT, Kharagpur & WBIDC. A project advisory committee has been formed with the Hon’ble Minister of Commerce and Industry as its Chairman.
5. Foundry Park
In association with Foundry Association, WBIDC is setting up a modern Foundry Park at Hawlibagan under PS-Sankrail on Ranihati-Amta Road in Howrah district. Out of 924 acres of land identified, already 300 acres have been purchased. The balance will be purchased through a committee set up by the State Government. A Special Purpose Vehicle, called Foundry Cluster Development Association has been incorporated. The project cost has been estimated at Rs. 130 crore. DIPP, ministry of Commerce, Government of India has sanctioned Rs. 42.39 crores as grant to meet a part of the cost of the project component under Industrial Infrastructure Upgrading Scheme. The first installment of Rs. 8 crores has been disbursed to the SPV. ILFS has sanctioned Rs. 30 crore as term loan. Balance fund will be provided by the Indian Foundry Association. About 200 units are expected to come up in the park with investment of approximately Rs. 1600 crores. It is also expected that the project will generate employment for 30000 people.
6. Rubber Park
All India Rubber Association is in the process of setting up a Modern Rubber Park at Sankrail in Howrah District. About 35 acres of land has been acquired out of total requirement of 170 acres. The remaining land is under process of direct purchase by a committee formed by the State Government. A project report has been prepared to evaluate the techno-economic feasibility report for development of Rubber Park at Domjur. A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) called South Asia Rubber & Polymers Park Ltd. has been incorporated. DIPP, Government of India has sanctioned Rs. 15.17 crores as grant for infrastructure facilities at Rubber Park under IIUS scheme.

The first installment of 20% amounting to Rs. 3.14 crores has been released to the SPV. The corporation has sanctioned a term loan of Rs. 2.90 crores. The balance amount of Rs. 11.12 crores will be contributed by the member units of All India Rubber Industries Association. About 250 units are expected to come up in the Rubber Park. For manufacturing rubber seeds, footwear, rubber hoses, tubes, micro cellular sheets, Hawai chappals, automotive rubber products etc. which is to generate employment for 16000 people.
7. Knowledge City
WBIDC has planned to establish a Knowledge City along with allied infrastructure in and around Dum Dum airport.

An area measuring around 850 acres of land comprising mouzas Jamalpara, JL No. 42, Umarhati, JL No. 41, Kashinathpur, JL No. 39 and Shikharpur (Sheet No.2), JL No. 49 under PS Rajarhat in North 24 Parganas.

The Knowledge City Project is proposed to have dedicated areas of high end knowledge based manufacturing units in IT & ITES and Biotech Research areas, institutional area for medical colleges and other educational institutions, health facilities, retailing and warehousing and such other facilities.

The entire Knowledge City will provide for high quality standard infrastructure.
New Initiatives
The Corporation has decided to float a venture capital (VC) fund of Rs. 300 crore. Primarily, new entrepreneurs who plan to come up with high-tech and knowledge-based projects or other projects considered to be good will be given access to this fund. ICICI- Winfra has been given the mandate to fix the terms of reference of the fund. WBIDC plans to provide seed money for the venture capital fund.
Looking Further
The corporation is making consistent efforts to strengthen its core business activities and shall improve its performance in monetary terms. The corporation will spend up development and create infrastructure facilities for accelerated industrial growth in the State. It will also continue to play the role of a catalyst in the process of attracting massive industrial investment in the State.
