WBIDC signs MoA with Emami Group
-To set up the first Greenfield integrated pulp and paper plant -
Kolkata, 27 February 2009:  In an endeavour to meet the rising demands of paper in the new millennium, West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) and Emami Group today inked a Memorandum of Agreement at Kolkata, to initiate the first Greenfield integrated pulp and paper project in the country. The MoA was signed in the presence of Shri. Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, Honorable Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mr. R.S. Goenka and Mr. R.S. Agarwal, Joint Group Chairmen, Emami Ltd. 

The proposed project with an approximate investment of Rs.2200 crores, will be a high end printing and writing paper plant with the respective capacity of 2,00,000 TP.  It will be built at Kultikri under Sankrail Police Station area in the district of West Midnapore. The plant which will be one of the country’s largest such plants, will be developed using the state–of–the art technology from Scandinivia and Germany.  The project would require approximately 1415 acres of land and commissioning of the Project is likely to be 42 months after the possession of land. The plant will be a part of a Paper and Allied products Park which is being developed by the Government of West Bengal through WBIDC. 

The project would require raw material of around 650,000 TPA Pulpable Wood, entailing water consumption of about 75000 M3 / day and coal consumption of around 200,000 TPA.  The project is expected to generate captive power of around 40 MW. The proposed integrated paper plant is expected to generate both direct and indirect employment of almost 1000 and 4000 people respectively.
