Note on IITF-2008
The Indian International Trade Fair (IITF) –2008 was held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from 14th to 27th November 2008. An annual event organized by the India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO) wherein all the States and Union Territories of our country participated along with other visiting countries.

Like each year West Bengal this year too participated at IITF 2008 and displayed its investment potential, current projects and cultural diversities through the theme provided by ITPO.The theme at the IITF –2008 was “ Women Empowerment and Infrastructure”. The year 2008 will always be remembered as a special year for the Govt of West Bengal as for the first time in its history of IITF, Delhi participation West Bengal bagged the Silver Medal (2nd prize) for excellence in display in the best possible way among the States and Union Territories .The Silver medal was awarded to West Bengal in an award giving ceremony organized by the India Trade Promotion Organization on 7/11/2008.The award was received by Srimati Nandini Chakravorty, Executive Director from Sri Jairam Ramesh, Minister of Oil and Petrochemical.

The façade of the West Bengal pavilion showcased the eminent women of our states who resurrected many ideas and took the people of West Bengal towards a brighter future. The façade also depicted infrastructure development that had taken place in this state , massive flyovers, convention centers , IT Sez’s, Hospitality& Hospital Sector, Aerotropolis Project.

The major attraction in West Bengal Pavilion this year was the participation of self help group who in numbers put up sales stalls comprising Kantha Stich Sarees, Hand painted suits and sarees, jute products, Pata painting, Silver & artificial jewelleries, Carved wood utility products. These groups did a brisk business during IITF-2008, which has prompted these groups to think of participating once again in IITF-2009.
